Battleship Rock is a towering volcanic rock formation in the Jemez Mountains, located a few miles north of Jemez Springs along NM-4. Rising roughly 200 feet above the canyon, the formation gets its name from its long, jagged shape, which resembles the bow of a battleship, formed by volcanic activity in the Jemez Mountains more than five million years ago.
What to Do
At its base, the East Fork of the Jemez River and the San Antonio River come together, creating a shady recreation area with picnic tables, fishing, and access to hiking trails.

The East Fork Trail begins nearby and follows the river into the mountains, connecting to McCauley Warm Springs and Jemez Falls for a longer hike.

How Much Time to Spend
30 minutes to an hour covers the viewpoint and picnic area. Add more time if you plan to hike the East Fork Trail toward McCauley Warm Springs or Jemez Falls.
