Scenic view of Breaking Bad First Cook Site

The Breaking Bad First Cook Site is the remote desert location where Walter White and Jesse Pinkman take their RV for their first meth cook in the pilot episode of Breaking Bad.

Located on Canoncito Navajo land west of Albuquerque, the site sits in red sandstone cliffs and open high-desert terrain that became one of the show’s most recognizable landscapes. The same area was later reused for several major scenes, including Walt burying his money and the climactic desert confrontation near the end of the series (no spoilers).

Visiting

The filming site is located along Trail 7089 on Navajo Nation land near To’hajiilee. Visitors should stay on established roads, respect nearby homes and private areas, and follow any posted access restrictions.

Authorized Breaking Bad desert tours also visit the area and have permission to access the filming locations.
