Scenic view of Lake Roberts

Lake Roberts is a small reservoir in the Gila National Forest along NM-35, surrounded by forested hills and quiet mountain country. At around 70 acres, it is one of the few developed lakes in this part of the Gila.

What to Do

Fishing is the main reason to stop. The lake is stocked with trout, bass, and catfish. Only electric and non-motorized boats are allowed, which keeps the lake quiet. There is also a boat launch, picnic areas, and short trails along the shoreline.

How Much Time to Spend

A quick stop takes about 30 minutes. If you are fishing, paddling, or having a picnic, plan to spend a couple of hours. Staying overnight makes sense, if you are taking a longer trip through the Gila.

Getting There

Lake Roberts sits along NM-35 north of Silver City in the Gila National Forest. The main approach is paved and straightforward for most vehicles. If you continue toward the Gila Cliff Dwellings, NM-15 becomes much narrower and more winding.

Lake Roberts is not a major destination on its own but, it’s a good stop for fishing or camping while you are already exploring the Gila!
